SynSel Energy, Inc. of Elk Grove Village, IL announced plans to develop a biorefinery in Frenchtown, MT on the former site of the Smurfit Stone pulp mill. The plant will produce 180,000 gallons per day of environmentally responsible advanced “tank ready” synthetic biofuels.

SynSel CEO Tim Tawoda stated, “The Frenchtown site is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, giving SynSel strategic access to beetle kill wood for feedstock. We will also repurpose some of the same renewable wood feedstock formerly used by the Smurfit Stone pulp mill. The site has all the industrial and transportation infrastructure necessary for a SynSel plant. The SynSel plant will bring needed employment to the area across many sectors of the community.” SynSel’s site Co-Developer of the Frenchtown, Montana site is Green Investment Group.
