For the most part, it all ran smoothly. There were only a few minor technical problems on route, which were all solved. The Motorwagen was patented on 29 January 1886 as DRP-37435: "automobile fueled by gas". The world’s inventor to the predecessor of today’s automobile, Karl Benz, was born in Germany and educated as a mechanical engineer … raised in poverty but with the resilience to prevail and think outside the box. Benz is recognized as the father of the automobile as he had patented the speed regulation system, the ignition using sparks with battery, the spark plug, the carburetor, the clutch, the gear shift, and the water radiator. An original Model III Patent Motor Car, identical in construction, still exists today and is the world’s oldest remaining Benz automobile.
